IMS Women’s writing competition

In recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Illawarra Multicultural Services launched a Women’s Writing Competition. The 2021 theme was Female Role Models, with the intention of commemorating this day by highlighting the stories and voices of women and girls from culturally diverse backgrounds.

The SCWC were pleased to support IMS by partnering on this competition and providing prizes including SCWC memberships and workshop vouchers. SCWC judges, Sarah Nicholson, Sky Carrall, and Jamilla Dempsey were honoured to be involved in this project, and say a huge congratulations to every person who submitted a story.

The winners of the IMS Women’s writing competition:

1st Place Adult Category: Svetlana Ida-Dury.

2nd Place Adult Category: Shahira Mohseni.

3rd Place Adult Category: Alla Lino Afonso.

1st Place Teen Category: Natasha Munyana.

2nd Place Teen Category: Hala Mansour.

Special IEC prize: Warutchaya Samart.

1st Place Children Category: Madeleine Mineeff.

2nd Place Children Category: Leni Taylor and Claudia te Velde.
