RESIDENCY PROGRAMS
For Emerging and Established Writers
Monday 1st March – Sunday 7th March 2027
This week-long retreat at Jamberoo Abbey welcomes up to 13 emerging or established south coast writers to focus on developing or completing literary works. While participants primarily spend their days working on their individual projects, this retreat is also designed to cultivate community and to offer peer support via daily group meetings.
Jamberoo Abbey cottages are located on the grounds of an enclosed community of Benedictine nuns located on Jamberoo Mountain Rd, Jamberoo. The grounds of the Abbey offer a quiet, beautiful, contemplative environment that is perfect for writers. The retreat space includes a group dining room and lounge room, a conference space, access to the Abbey, and a bushwalking trail.
Here's what the 2026 group had to say:
"Overall experience was fabulous. I was extremely productive thanks to the serene atmosphere and supportive company."
"The retreats are so well set up to support writers in a creative environment and to let them be at their own pace. I feel my confidence as a writer has grown a lot."
"Plenty of time to concentrate on my project with the kind support of SCWC staff and the rest of the group. It was a wonderful experience!"
'“The Abbey's peaceful, distraction-free setting made it easy to focus on my writing. At a minimum, I wrote as much per day as I would normally in a whole week."
"We each brought our own ideas and perspectives to the table, and I, for one, learned a great deal from the other writers."
"Relaxing and stimulating." "This residency was a gift!" "I felt inspired, supported, and motivated”
