Dragon Scales by Karen Foxlee

Review by Leni Taylor

Dragon Scales is one of the most interesting books I have read. I loved every bit of it. To begin with, it is set in Australia, which is so rare for a fantasy story and I love that. Pip, a young girl, rescues Little Fella, a baby dragon, from the waterhole, and has to release him back to his mother. I really like Pip’s character. In most stories the main character is outgoing, brave, courageous and strong. Although Pip is so quiet, awkward and still, she is also an awesome Dragon-saver and a hero. The author has created an amazing character journey for Pip by making her deal with her Mum’s new boyfriend Matt, her experiences at school, her mother’s evolving personality and saving a dragon. This all makes it a very challenging time for Pip to go through and come out stronger on the other side.

I think it is a very interesting style of writing, very smooth, and I really enjoyed it. It is funny, serious, sad and strange. I would 100% recommend Dragon Scales to anyone. 10/10 stars!
