IMS Women’s Writing Competition


The Women’s Writing Competition 2022 was organised by Illawarra Multicultural Services (IMS) in collaboration with the South Coast Writers Centre (SCWC). 113 people participated in the writing competition from at least, 35 different cultural backgrounds from all over Illawarra and the Shoalhaven.

 The winners in the Adult age category are:

1st Place: Mahek Zeeshan

2nd Place: Tahereh Aghili

These winners will have the opportunity to work with SCWC's writing mentor Zohra Aly as part of SCWC's Emerging Refugee Writers Mentoring Program to develop their writing further.

IMS would like to thank all the schools and teachers for supporting their students to participate in our Women’s Writing Competition 2022, especially TAFE Illawarra, MAX Solutions, Warrawong Intensive English Centre, Amity College, Keira High School, Corrimal High School, Keiraville Public School and Stella Maris Catholic Primary School.

IMS would also like to thank the following SCWC volunteers for their work in judging the entries and for delivering a variety of writing classes: Peter Frankis, Catherine Evans, Deidre O’Brien, Di Kelly, Kari Hill, Kate Henderson, Tonya Lee and Lindsay Fisher.

IMS hosted a dinner celebration where the winners, their families and teachers all joined together to celebrate the winners and to acknowledge the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

Congratulations to all the winners, their families, and their schools. IMS always aims to empower our multicultural communities and to celebrate our many diverse talents.
