DONATE NOW
DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT

In its 25th year, with over 400 members and a wide supporter base, the South Coast Writers Centre is the only writers’ centre serving the Illawarra, South Coast and Southern Highlands of NSW.

While we are extremely grateful for the support from our current partners and members, our current funding falls short of our ability to serve our writing community.

This is why we are thrilled to be part of Creative Partnerships Australia Plus1 program. From now until May 2024 Creative Partnerships Australia will match every dollar you contribute. With your help the South Coast Writers Centre can help emerging writers, and those experiencing financial hardship, to find their voice and have a ‘write’ future!

We are raising funds in support of the South Coast Writers Centre Community Writing Program and Hardship Fund.

Hardship Fund for Writers: Financial difficulties should never hinder a writer's ability to pursue their passion and develop their craft. Our hardship fund provides crucial support to writers facing financial challenges, ensuring they have access to essential resources, opportunities, and a supportive community. Support for the campaign will directly impact the lives of writers who might otherwise struggle to continue their literary pursuits. We will be asking for public support for our Community Writing Program. This program includes our creative writing programs for young writers aged 10-25, our mentoring programs for refugee and Aboriginal writers, our free public events program at the South Coast Writers Festival in Wollongong, and our financial hardship program which offers people from low-income backgrounds subsidised or free access to our courses. These programs support public literary education, as well as focusing specifically on diversity and youth.

Empowering Indigenous and Culturally Diverse Writers: We work with multicultural organisations including Illawarra Multicultural Services, to identify refugee and Aboriginal writers to mentor through a process of writing and publishing work in their own voices. We are committed to promoting inclusivity and amplifying the voices of Indigenous writers and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Contributions to the campaign will help us create targeted programs, workshops, and resources that honour and celebrate their unique perspectives, stories, and contributions to Australia's rich literary landscape.

Programs for Young Writers: Our programs for 10 to 25- year-olds provide a mentored developmental pathway for young people from junior through to graduate classes, with the opportunity for young people to hone their skills and create writing that is published and launched in the local community. Our programs for young writers are designed to ignite creativity, foster a love for storytelling, and develop essential writing skills. By donating to our campaign, the public will provide workshops, mentorship opportunities, and resources tailored to young writers, empowering them to share their unique voices and shape the future of literature.

Support for Emerging Writers: Emerging writers often face numerous challenges as they navigate their way into the literary world. Through our support programs, we offer mentorship, professional development, and networking opportunities to help emerging writers hone their craft, gain confidence, and establish their place in the industry. Donations to our campaign will enable us to expand these programs and provide crucial support to those on the path to becoming published authors.
